LBMS News

News from the Nurse
11-24-2014: I am sorry to report that we are not having a good start to Thanksgiving break.  Ten percent of our students are absent today due to illness. Many parents have reported fevers with sore throat, but their children were negative for Strep. There has been another confirmed case of Strep, and one reported case of Influenza A.

Thank you to all who kept sick students at home!

I am hopeful that the long weekend will allow for some recovery. As always, feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Pre-school Screening
On Monday, December 8, 2014 from 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., parents and families of children ages 3, 4, or 5 may have their child screened for developmental delays or disabilities. Interested parents/guardians should contact Jean Amundson at 847-234-9400. This event is free of charge to families who reside or attend school within the District 65 boundaries.

State report card now online
11-19-2014: Each year, the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) releases a "report card" for each school and district in the state to inform the public of school performance in the areas of English/Language Arts (ELA), Math, and school climate.

The report card for Lake Bluff Elementary School District 65 is now posted online>>. The report card highlights the achievements of the children of Lake Bluff and demonstrates that the schools continue to be bastions of educational excellence for all children.

Common Core Math Can be a Mystery, and Parents are Going to School to Understand it

11-14-2014: Understanding Common Core Math-a school district's approach to helping parents. "The changes have confused many parents--particularly at the elementary level--leaving them flustered by a basic parental duty: Helping with homework." Read more to find out how parents are being educated>>.

Student Absences

10-8-2014: If a student will be absent or arriving late, a parent or guardian must call the school at (847) 234-9407 or email athomas@lb65.org by 9:00 a.m.  If such notification is not received, the school will call your home, cell phone, or parent's place of employment.

In some cases, information regarding missed assignments can be accessed on the Homework & Staff Web Pages at
www.ms.lb65.org, but the web site only lists homework, not work that was completed in class that day. If a student is absent for two full days, homework can be requested from the office when the parent reports the absence before 9:00 a.m. the second day of absence. It is recommended that parents (not other students) pick up the materials after 3:45 p.m. For extended planned absences, you must present a written note or email to the office one week prior to departure. The student will be given a pre-arranged absence form to be signed by the student's teachers and returned to the office.
